Our Vision

At Newtown School we aim to create a learning community where everyone can flourish; where all are nurtured and supported to be the very best they can be. We encourage confidence to take risks, ask questions and share thinking. In this learning community there is a strong belief that all children and adults can learn and succeed in developing intellectual, social, emotional and creative capacity. They can be excited by learning; have positive working relationships, high expectations, a strong sense of community and a sense of awe and wonder.

We must develop a forward-looking curriculum based on developing real life skills through cross-curricular aspects of learning including the Social and Emotional aspects. This curriculum will support children’s developmental and learning needs and prepare them for the next phase of education and to life beyond.

We aim, in partnership with parents, the staff & governors, to ensure our children are happy, healthy and safe with ambition for life. We aim to achieve this through helping our children to be…

Our Values

Our shared values of ‘Respect, Responsibility and Resilience’ are the foundation of all we do; always encouraging friendship, kindness, empathy, respect, good humour and teamwork.

Newtown joined Cumbria Education Trust in September 2020. This exciting development in our school history enables us to work positively and purposefully in collaboration with our partner Trust Primary Schools to secure the very best outcomes for our children.

Promoting British Values

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in Britain are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
