We recently welcomed the Ofsted inspectors to Newtown Primary School, for a two-day graded inspection on 17th and 18th June. We are over the moon to share the incredible results of that inspection.
The new Ofsted rating means we no longer have a single-word judgement, but we were inspected in five key areas and graded on each – we are so proud to announce we received two ‘Outstanding’ grades and three ‘Good’ grades:
- The quality of education – Good
- Behaviour and attitudes – Outstanding
- Personal development – Outstanding
- Leadership and management – Good
- Early years provision – Good
We have come an incredibly long way since our last inspection in 2023, in which there were some areas that required improvement. We want to extend our sincere gratitude to all of you in our community; parents, pupils, staff, governors and beyond, who support and drive our school to be the best it can be and achieve these fantastic results.
When commenting on what it is like to attend our school, the inspectors noted, “Pupils learn in an extremely calm and purposeful environment. They enjoy their lessons and focus exceptionally well”. We are delighted the inspectors have recognised, “The school is unwavering in its determination to prepare pupils for life beyond school”.
Having worked so hard on our curriculum, teaching and learning, the outcome of what the inspectors witnessed was a joy to read, “The school and trust ensure that the curriculum reflects their high expectations for pupils’ learning and personal development. Pupils learn a rich curriculum and develop a broad body of knowledge”.
This extends to our core values and how we apply them to benefit every child, “Through the school’s ‘be the best you can be’ themed work, pupils learn a range of new skills. This includes orienteering, archery, golf, trampolining, cricket and more. Pupils develop their talents to a high level”.
We work hard to embrace and challenge every pupil, including those with SEN, and we are thrilled the inspectors agree, “The school has high expectations for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). It works with the trust, external agencies and parents and carers to ensure that pupils’ needs are accurately identified. Staff tailor the delivery of the curriculum to ensure the individual needs of pupils are met”.
Other key areas which were acknowledged were behaviour and attitudes, something we strive to improve each day, “Pupils’ behaviour is excellent. They have developed highly positive attitudes to their learning. Pupils follow the school’s embedded routines impeccably”.
We know the importance of personal development for our pupils and the report highlights this, “The school’s work to enhance pupils’ broader development is exceptional. There is a strong focus on pupils making a positive contribution to the school and to society” and “The school significantly enriches its personal, social, health and economic curriculum. Pupils complete weekly ‘missions’ to develop their resilience, problem solving, and creativity”.
This also extends to the personal development of our staff, to ensure they give our pupils the best educational experience, “The school develops staff’s expertise. Staff follow the school’s agreed lesson structure for all subjects”.
The report is full of positive comments – it’s a true pleasure to read. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank every member of staff for their unwavering commitment and passion. We also want to celebrate our fantastic children, whose behaviour and attitude left a lasting impression on the inspectors. And of course, thank you to our parents and carers – your continued support makes a real difference.
Looking ahead, we remain firmly committed to further improvement, ensuring every child at Newtown Primary School flourishes both academically and personally.
This is a moment of pride for our school community, and we’re excited to build on this success together.
